Welcome to the world of Shawn and Octoberson Design!

I'm a graphic designer who's finally starting to branch out into other areas of art and interests. I've been a graphic designer/production manager/graphic/production director for a local magazine. While I like designing ads and helping to produce a magazine every month, I also love to draw.

My hope for this blog is to post all sorts of new things that I've created, from sketches to finished works. I want to put my name and my work out into cyberspace, maybe it will end up making more creations to put into my digital portfolio! Please feel free to contact me if my design skills could be of use to you.

2005 UCP Smiles and Styles project

I was looking for this piece and finally found it in the archives. Like I said in the previous post about the 2006 UCP project, this brochure had more going for it that just my design. I also had to be a photographer for the image on the cover. I'll admit, I wouldn't consider myself a photographer by trade, but I do manage to get some decent compositions going when I try. The story behind the photo that made this image THE image they used was sort of simple. The little girl used in the shoot got very cranky and impatient while I was trying to take the photo. I honestly don't remember how many shots I had to take before this little moment happened. It's a great image, in my opinion, and I'm really amazed it was me behind the camera. Again, I do love the color scheme to this piece more than the 2006 piece. The orange is much more vibrant and energetic for something involving kids, if you ask me.
