Thanks for stopping by...

Welcome to the world of Shawn and Octoberson Design!

I'm a graphic designer who's finally starting to branch out into other areas of art and interests. I've been a graphic designer/production manager/graphic/production director for a local magazine. While I like designing ads and helping to produce a magazine every month, I also love to draw.

My hope for this blog is to post all sorts of new things that I've created, from sketches to finished works. I want to put my name and my work out into cyberspace, maybe it will end up making more creations to put into my digital portfolio! Please feel free to contact me if my design skills could be of use to you.

The Chosen Project

A little while ago I was checking my facebook account (something I will grudgingly admit I do more than a few times a day just for kicks) and a friend of my friend Mark posted something that caught my eye. Mark's friend's name is Randy, and while I don't know him personally, I feel a little like I know him a bit through Mark talking to me about him over the years. Both Mark and Randy have been working on a novel called The Chosen: Rebirthing. Borrowing a quote from their website, the novel is about "a young minister that finds out he’s been chosen to join a secret organization that helps to maintain the balance of good and evil on Earth; but it’s also about relationships, fighting inner demons, and sacrificing for the good of humanity."

Being the boyfriend of a writer, I am well aware that it isn't the easiest goal to get published. But this dynamic writing duo (yeah, I went there...) have decided to side step traditional publishing and just post their writing online chapter by chapter. Not only that, but they hope to have illustrators take a pass at some key moments in each chapter and add their own flair to Mark and Randy's project. The intention is to self publish the whole work together and have proceeds go to the Red Cross, since some of the themes carried through the book lend themselves to helping a cause greater than ones self.

Admittedly, I'm a very slow artist lately, but once I read their post about this idea, I couldn't pass up on the chance to help out. It sounds exciting to have my work put out there in this way, but it also feels really cool to know that my work will be part of something with a bigger goal behind it. I'm looking forward to what may come of this project. Stay tuned!

For any artists out there who would like to contribute your works to this project, check out the Authentic Entertainment website. Those two are all about "lowering your expectations… then blowing your mind!"
