This year the cliché "out with the old, in with the new" is very valid for me. For many reasons I've decided to put my best foot forward about doing more with my talents than what I let myself do previously. A coworker told me recently that the one thing that stood in the way of him doing something was himself and I could understand that wholeheartedly. But sometimes you get to a point where you are like a deer in headlights because of how overwhelming your mind can make those negative thoughts grow.
If you're very, very lucky, sometimes someone who cares about you can bring you back to yourself so you can get a different perspective. Recently I had the chance to truly do just that.
So, with this new year started, I've started doing new things like a 10 minute sketch 5 days a week and also preparing myself to get involved with my artwork at the Baltimore Comic Con this year. I have some other ideas on ways of expanding my talents and chances for new opportunities, but for the time being I think this is a very good start.
My very first 10 minute sketch of the year turned out to be a half hour sketch. In my opinion it isn't very good, but that's not the point of doing this. The point is doing SOMETHING creative and just go with the flow. Just before I was sketching I happened to be talking to Anne about David Tennant's last episodes of Doctor Who and what I thought of them. It felt appropriate with how much I love that show to do a quickie sketch of my favorite Doctor so far, Tennant-Who, as I called him a while back.
To end on a geek note for you fine readers, just as Doctor Who regenerates and becomes someone new and different, this new year gave me a chance to partake some of that feeling as I begin to rediscover this bald man named Shawn.
Stay tuned for more sketches, artwork, geekdom, and any other randomness I decide to post! It's a new era for me.
